What the photos show
- Silver-grey paint is glossy and straight on the long cabriolet panels, no paintwork needed on what is shown
- Chrome grille shell, bumpers and wheel-arch trim are bright, no rechroming money here, and the 280 SE and 3.5 trunk badges both read correctly
- Black soft top is shown up and looks taut and clean, no new top bill
- Black leather seats front and rear show light honest patina but no tears, so conditioning money, not a retrim
- Dash wood and gauges look rich and clean in the close shot, no dash restoration needed
- V8 engine bay looks complete and tidy-original rather than detailed, no obvious sorting bill under the hood
- Trunk is clean black with mat and upright spare in place, no trunk work visible
- Underside floors look solid grey with road grime and a dark exhaust, so cleanup money only underneath
- A factory data card and a binder of old service invoices are photographed with the car, history that supports value for free
Money: No sale price is listed, but the paint, chrome, top, interior and paperwork all support a strong sold result for a 3.5 cabriolet, with no big spend showing in the photos.

Condition: 1971 Mercedes 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet 99,000 documented miles Clean history Sadly it’s time to move on from a family heirloom car. This 280SE has been in my family for over 30 years, and has been a pleasure to use over the years. It has the 3.5L V8 which is both torquey and smooth. A significant upgrade
