About this car
This 1984 300SD is offered on eBay by gorilla in Chula Vista, CA. The asking price is $20,000. The car is finished in Gold over Tan, an automatic gearbox, power from a 3.0L Diesel I5 engine. The odometer shows 57,288 miles. The listing records a salvage title. On a W126, check for rust around the rear window and in the battery tray, and test the vacuum-operated door locks and the climate controls.
What the photos show
- Only five photos in the whole gallery, all exterior and cabin — most of the car is unproven at this price.
- Champagne paint is flat, faded and dusty on the hood and roof, and the hood star is missing — budget paint correction at best, a repaint at worst, plus a new star.
- Front tyre is flat in the first photo with the car sitting at the curb on leaves — budget tyres and ask how long it has sat.
- Chrome grille and bumpers are present and fairly bright under the dust — no rechrome money visible once cleaned.
- Tan seats front and rear are intact and unripped, the rear seat especially clean — no need to reupholster.
- Cabin is filthy: dusty gauges, dirty carpets and console, and peeling dash wood trim — budget a full detail and wood repair.
- Odometer in the dusty cluster reads 57,288 miles — the low reading helps only if the history backs it, which the photos cannot prove.
- Can't judge the engine bay — no engine photo in the gallery, so the diesel's condition is unproven.
- Can't judge the underside — no underside photos, so rust and leaks underneath are unproven.
Money: At $20,000 this is top money for a dusty, flat-tyred 300SD shown in five photos — the faded paint, missing star and unseen engine bay mean the ask is not supported until the car is cleaned, running and inspected.
