About this car
1968 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia listed on eBay in Grand Rapids, MI. Listing shows 94,994 miles shown, 4-Speed Manual transmission, Red exterior. Asking price $16,110 on eBay.
What the photos show
- Red paint is glossy and even all round with a black vinyl roof, panels straight and badges in place — no paint budget overall from these photos.
- One close-up does show a small scratch in the red paint by a window seal, measured against a ruler — budget a small touch-in, not a panel repaint.
- Chrome bumpers, grille trim and tail-light surrounds are bright and straight — no re-chrome money needed.
- Steel wheels with chrome hubcaps are clean and the blackwall tires show good tread — no tire spend.
- Black vinyl seats, door cards and carpets look clean and untorn, dash top is uncracked in the views and the black headliner is taut — no interior budget from these photos.
- No engine bay photo in the sample — can't judge it, hold back money for that inspection.
- No underside photo in the sample — can't judge rockers or floors, and Ghias rust there, so hold back money for a lift inspection.
Money: the glossy paint and clean black interior support the $16,110 ask; the small paint scratch is minor, and engine bay and underside are the must-see items.

Karmann, the German coachbuilder, approached the Italian design firm Ghia in the early 1950s and together they built a prototype on a Beetle chassis without telling Volkswagen. When they unveiled it, the VW executives were so taken with it that they committed to production immediately. The car went on sale in 1955, ran for 20 years with almost no changes to the body, an
