About this car
This 1966 230SL is offered on eBay by beverlyhillscarclub in Los Angeles, CA. The asking price is $36,500. The car is finished in Dark Green, a manual gearbox. The listing does not state a mileage. As with any Pagoda, the floors, sills and spare-wheel well deserve a close look for rust, and the soft-top frame and hardtop seals are worth checking.
What the photos show
- this is the same green 230SL as the Hemmings listing in this batch — same Beverly Hills Car Club stock number 19917 and plate USY 404 in the photos — judged here from its own eBay photo set
- dark green paint looks glossy, but the right front wing carries the same large rust patch through the paint, so wing repair money is certain
- the brown soft top has a split, torn seam beside its rear window in the close-up, so top repair or replacement money is coming
- tan front seats look clean and intact in the close-ups in this set, and the gear lever is a manual, so no front seat retrim bill shows
- the trunk floor under the mat shows rust streaks across the black paint, so trunk metal attention is coming
- the engine bay cowl and inner wing are corroded and crusty, so bay rust work joins the bill
- chrome bumpers look bright, so rechroming can wait
- can't judge the underside — no underside photo in the sampled set, so a lift inspection is essential before paying
Money: at $36,500 this duplicate listing of the green Beverly Hills Pagoda tells the same story as its twin — good seats, rusty wing, trunk and bay, so price it as a project.

Condition: 1966 Mercedes Benz 230L This pagoda is a running and driving project that was delivered from the factory in what I think is the best color combination of Silver on dark blue. This unit is equipped with a manual gearbox and is generally solid. It will need some rust repair in floor pan but is otherwise quite straight. Obviously, the paint is shot and the interior will need to be redone. A previous owner fitted a 280 badge but I have confirmed with Mercedes classic that the car is a 230 and have a copy of the cardex.
